Starting May 10, 2026, Beijing has launched a pilot program allowing passengers to carry full-sized bicycles onto specific subway lines during weekends. This is a significant breakthrough for cyclists wanting to reach popular riding routes in the outskirts, such as the Mentougou mountain loops or the Changping Greenway, without having to ride through city traffic.
Key Details at a Glance
- Start Date: May 10, 2026.
- Pilot Lines: Line 6, Line 17, Changping Line, and S1 Line.

- Statutory Public Holidays (even if they fall on a weekend)

- Fare: Fixed price of ¥30 per person per trip. This includes the rider and one bicycle with no time limit on the designated lines.

- Protective Covers: Upon entering the station, you will go through security (both person and bike). You will be provided with a special protective cover for your bicycle. You must keep the bike wrapped at all times while in the paid area and on the train to prevent grease or parts from touching other passengers. Return the cover at your destination station.
- No Transfers: You are strictly prohibited from transferring to any lines not included in the pilot program or exiting at non-pilot stations.
- Use Elevators: It is recommended to use vertical elevators and wide-channel gate turnstiles.
- No Escalators: For safety reasons, do not take bicycles on escalators. Use stairs if an elevator is unavailable.
- No Riding: Riding your bicycle inside the station or on the train is strictly forbidden.
- On the Train: Park your bicycle in the open areas of the carriage and stay with it at all times to ensure it does not move or block others.
